Vinyl Confessions

Vinyl Confessions is a listening and conversation series that brings together music, art, and personal storytelling. Developed in collaboration between Kunstinstituut Melly and Hiphophuis, the program forms part of the broader Tools for Conviviality: Common Ground framework, combining performance, dialogue, and storytelling.

Inspired by the installation Something Else by artist and musician Dimitri Madimin, the series positions vinyl as a carrier of collective memory, resistance, and cultural identity. In each edition, artists, DJs, and cultural practitioners are invited to share personal stories, musical influences, and cultural reflections through vinyl records. Music becomes both a listening experience and a living archive of history.

This edition

In this edition, veteran DJ and vinyl archivist Erwin Zimmerman (aka DJ Git Hyper)—founder of the legendary Demonfuzz Records in Rotterdam—joins artist Dimitri Madimin for a performative conversation moderated by Tasha Slagtand. Together, they will weave sound and rhythm with personal stories and reflections, demonstrating how vinyl becomes a living archive and how the DJ functions as both historian and cultural translator. Each guest selects 2–3 meaningful vinyl records as entry points for dialogue about music, life, and social impact.

The discussion will explore crate digging, cultural memory, and the development of club culture in the Netherlands—Rotterdam in particular—revealing how music has shaped generations of artists and audiences alike.

To close the program, Git Hyper returns to the stage, this time joined by acclaimed Rotterdam rapper Duvel, for a short live performance and DJ Soulfania and Dim Browski take over the decks for closing Party
