FREE ENTRANCE: please reserve via the Book tickets link.

Vinyl Confessions is a three-part listening and conversation series presented as part of Tools for Conviviality: Common Ground, developed in collaboration between Kunstinstituut Melly and Hiphophuis. Taking its cue from the Something Else vinyl installation created by Dimitri Madimin, the series brings together musicians and cultural practitioners to explore personal and collective narratives through music.

For this opening event, violinist Shauntell Baumgard will be in conversation with moderator Tasha Slagtand. Together, they will reflect on identity, artistic development, and the influence of African diaspora sounds, particularly Suriname’s kaseko music, on Baumgard’s efforts to elevate the role of the violin across genres and traditions. Their conversation will trace connections between heritage, musical innovation, and the unfolding of an artistic practice rooted in both personal and communal experience.

This programme is presented as part of North Sea Round Town and is the first in the Vinyl Confessions series. The final two sessions will take place on Sunday 13 September as part of the closing party for Common Ground.
