Brotherflow Workshop #1: Sacred Pelvis — The Centre of Groove by Diego Oliveira & Priscilla Verwaaijen
2–5 pm
Kunstinstituut Melly & Brotherflow are proud to present our second season of free workshop series from October to December for men and male-identifying individuals.
This Laboratory for New Masculinities is a four-part somatic workshop series exploring how masculinity can be experienced and expressed differently through the body: by softening, feeling, listening, playing, and connecting. Each session is led by a different practitioner, offering a distinct lens on embodiment and the many ways we can relate to ourselves and others.
The Program:
25 October: Sacred Pelvis — The Centre of Groove by Diego Oliveira & Priscilla Verwaaijen.
8 November: Growing Awareness Through Touch by Joost van Veen & Pedro Lechuga-Farias.
22 November: The Wounds That Keep Us From Being Ourselves by Lester David Arias [info t.b.a.]
13 December: A journey of connection through presence and touch by Luis Bracamontes: Breath, Body & Brotherhood [info t.b.a.]
Workshop #1: Sacred Pelvis — The Centre of Groove by Diego Oliveira & Priscilla Verwaaijen
A 3-hour OM Flow journey into the pelvis, rhythm, sensuality and embodied expression, led by Diego Oliveira.
The pelvis is one of the most powerful centres of movement in our body, and it is also an area we were forced to control, disconnect from or hide.
For many men, cultural conditioning can create tension, shame or difficulty around softness, pleasure and vulnerability. This workshop is an invitation to explore a different relationship with the pelvis: not only as a sexual area, but as a centre of rhythm, vitality, sensuality, grounding and creative expression.
We will explore the difference between sexual and sensual energy, and how we can honour both organically, without judgement or having to act out something sexual as a way to mask or protect the real feeling — what happens often as well.
Through the OM Flow approach, you will experience:
- Release — self-massage, body awareness and techniques for softening tension.
- Rhythm & Groove — pelvic mobility, repetitive rhythmic patterns and organic grooving transformation, to reconnect the pelvis as leading the rest of the body.
- Sensuality — developing sensitivity, presence and a deeper relationship with pleasure, especially honouring and respecting it when dancing more intimately with each other.
- Improvisation — guided explorations to listen to your pelvis, follow its impulses and discover your own movement language within the collective groove experience we will create in the room.
We will move from individual exploration into rhythm, groove and shared space, always reconnecting to the question:
What happens when you soften control in the pelvis and start listening to it and sensing it?
This is not about how your pelvis should move. It is about discovering how it wants to move when you relax into it.
This workshop is for people who identify as men, aged 18 and over, and will be held in English.
