THE ORGAN

For the new season of exhibitions Kunstinstituut Melly introduces THE ORGAN, a platform that functions as a zone of entry points located between the exhibitions both on the ground-floor and in our upstairs galleries. ‘THE ORGAN’ is a hands-on space that gathers tactile materials (things to touch), visual source-material for works that are presented in the exhibitions, as well as sonic, musical, poetic, historical and textual references. Here we invite you to enter into conversations with artists and their materials, the development of thematic concepts, and our unfolding research frameworks.

Each of the six artists in our current exhibitions have contributed resources to experience here. These include the three artists from our the ground-floor Pickup Notes presentations: Liz Johnson Artur, Madiha Sikander, and Zara Julius ; as well as the five artists of our new ‘Double 1&2’ solo exhibition series by Cihad Caner, Jabu Arnell, Luana Vitra, Nolan Oswald Dennis, and Sara Sejin Chang.

THE ORGAN makes connections to books recommended by artists that are available to buy in our downstairs bookshop. The materials of THE ORGAN will also be called upon in the ‘Toolshed’ for our Collective Learning in Practice (CLiP) group hosted on the second floor.
