A Mic Of One’s Own (ENG)
7–9 pm
A new edition of A Mic of One’s Own, a series of collaborations between Kunstinstituut Melly and The Writer’s Guide (to the Galaxy)!
My Mother Went to Italy and All I Got Is This Suitcase Full of Cheese
In other words: the theme of this edition is food! Food that excites you, food that comforts you, food that transports you to your childhood, connects you with your ancestors or just simply shuts your bad date up. Inspiration for this evening is the sparkly new exhibition by Riet Wijnen (what’s in a name?) at Melly. “Suitcase Economy” is an an experimental canteen where food takes the stage as away to think about history, home and relationships.
Performers: we’re looking for you!
As always we invite you to perform any type of text: your grandma’s secret recipe (we won’t tell her), an ode to peaches (?) or a poem about the necessity of chocolate. But it could also be a piece about how food preserves culture, especially in diaspora, or even about diet culture and the strained relationship that a lot of us have with food. We’d love to hear your personal views, thoughts and experiences about this subject. Because we have limited space, we ask you to apply first. You can do so by filling in this application form by December 8th.
Do you simply want to come and listen? Get your free ticket here.
