Yto Barrada
Born in Paris, Yto Barrada lives and works in New York. In her photography, films, sculptures, prints, and installations, Barrada examines the political and social realities of Morocco. Many of her works document intimate and family histories against the backdrop of official, hegemonic, and colonial narratives and histories. Barrada is the founding director of the Cinémathèque de Tanger. She studied history and political science at the Sorbonne, Paris and photography in New York. Her most recent solo exhibitions have been at Neuberger Museum of Art, Harrison; LMCC’s ArtsCenter at Governor’s Island, New York; and Casa Barragán, Mexico City
