Waysatta Fernández
Waysatta Fernández (Mexico, 1983) is an artist who, in 2011, abandoned individual art making in favor of collaborative processes such as an assembly, a library or a radio station. She co-founded Crater Invertido Cooperativa to build collective projects where artistic practices are intertwined with social and political processes. Since 2012, this collective has been a part of Arts Collaboratory, an ecosystem of 25 like-minded organizations situated predominantly in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, all being attuned to artistic and curatorial strategies for social change and sustainability in their respective contexts.
Fernández was awarded the 2020 Afield Mentorship with the project Dominga… Pollination narratives in the town of Santa Rosa Xochiac in Mexico to work with 2016 Fellow Fernando García-Dory.
