FORUM: Gearing up to Venice Biennale

Live Book Tickets

Location: Auditorium, Kunstinstituut Melly

Kunstinstituut Melly is delighted to host a FORUM that opens conversations, responses, and resonances with the upcoming 60th edition of the Venice Biennale. This program is co-presented together with the Mondriaan Fund, and organized on the occasion of the 25th edition of Art Rotterdam.

With the 60th edition of the Venice Biennale just around the corner (opening in April 2024), join us for a special program featuring artists and curators representing the Netherlands and Ukraine in this year’s edition. This collaborative event marks the inaugural public appearance for both the Dutch and Ukrainian pavilions. Each pavilion will offer individual presentations followed by a panel discussion moderated by Yuki Kho.

Participants include the Dutch entry for the Biennale – the artist collective Cercle d'Art des Travailleurs de Plantation Congolaise (CATPC) with artist Renzo Martens and curator Hicham Khalidi, who will come together to reflect on their collective endeavor. Ukrainian curators Max Gorbatskyi and Viktoria Bavykina will introduce their project together with the participating artist duo Lia Dostlieva and Andrii Dostliev, whose other body of work can be experienced within the current group exhibition at Kunstinstituut Melly, My Oma.

Integral to the discussion will be the overarching question of what national representation at the Venice Biennale means in 2024, against the backdrop of differing geopolitical and national positions. Join us in exchanging ideas around the dynamics of artistic representation on an international stage.
