FOCUS: Lucy Beech at Poetry International

Offsite Book Tickets

This June, we celebrate our exhibition openings at Kunstinstituut Melly alongside the 53rd edition of the Poetry International festival at Lantaren Venster. This year, under the title of There is a Poem for That! the festival celebrates the boundless imagination of poetry.

On the second day of the festival, exhibiting artist at Kunstinstituut Melly, Lucy Beech, will join a panel conversation titled First Drafts hosted at Lantaren Venster, Rotterdam. Lucy Beech’s new work collectively titled Ooze, appears as one of our two ‘Solo Duets’ exhibitions, and delves into the lives of waste through histories of science and in biomedical applications such as In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) fertility treatment.

The program of First Drafts is dedicated to questions of artistic process—of what stays in an artist's or poet’s drafts and what is discarded. Questions of ‘waste’ and ‘productivity’ in artistic creation connect to broader themes that are the meticulously researched subject matter of Lucy Beech’s new exhibition. First Drafts will also feature poets Farhad Showghi and Simone Atangana Bekono, and will be moderated by Kila van der Starre.

Poets taking part in the 53rd edition of the Poetry International Festival include: Ada Limón (Dichter des Vaderlands USA) - Claudia Rankine (USA) - Kei Miller (Jamaica/UK) - Ingmar Heytze (Netherlands) - Paul Tran (Korea/USA) - Radosław Jurczak (Poland) - Justin Perez (USA) - Signe Gjessing (Denmark) - Jan Lauwereyns (Belgium) - Danae Sioziou (Greece) - Theophilus Kwek (Singapore) - Rachel Long (United Kingdom) - Laura Vazquez (France) - Porsha Olawiyola (USA) - Ribka Sibhatu (Italy) - Ester Naomi Perquin (Netherlands) - Farhad Showgi (Germany) - Ruth Lasters (Belgium) - Simone Atangana Bekono (Netherlands) - Erik Jan Harmens (Netherlands), Amina & Jamila Ouahid (Sweden).
