Jam session with Memory Biwa, Lynnée Denise, Eiliyas and Robert 'Chi' Machiri
6–9 pm
Come join us for a Pungwe Listening Jam: a session of off-cuts, spliced and diced bits, three-for-one specials, leftovers, and take-aways inspired by Katherine McKittrick’s Dear Science and Other Stories (Duke University Press).
Over a decade of friendship and collaboration converge as Chi, Lynnée Denise, Eiliyas, and Memory gather once again. Grounded in methodologies of liberation, they evoke Deep Souths stretching from Windhoek to Atlanta, Los Angeles via Harare: all-night gatherings, breaking bread, conversations as scaffolding, looping and remixing new flows, and catching waveforms at the seaport fringe of a Toolshed.
About TOOLSHED
As part of TOOLSHED, Kunstinstituut Melly’s residency and research initiative, we are pleased to present Listening at Pungwe, a collective founded by artist-historian Memory Biwa and music and sound researcher Robert Machiri.
TOOLSHED is conceived as an experimental space for reflection, discussion, and action on how we build and transform cultural institutions today. Within this framework, Listening at Pungwe introduces its practice of listening as a mode of inquiry, resistance, and reimagination.
Jamming begins at 18:30 and continues until 21:00
