Is Canadian art intellectual?

Brian Jungen is often cited as being exemplary of the new generation of Canadian artists, but how does his work actually relate to the wider, national picture? Is his work typical (or atypical) in its fusion of conceptual art with popular culture? From what intellectual background does it emerge?

Building upon the informal conversation about the Vancouver art scene, critic Clint Burnham will give an illustrated lecture on Canadian contemporary art. From his position as art critic for Vancouver’s largest daily newspaper, the Vancouver Sun, and his work for international publications including Flash Art, Burnham is the ideal candidate to lead such a discussion without resorting to generalizations.
