Masterclass: The Social Botany Project

Noted Chinese artist Xu Tan (Wuhan, 1957) will give an exclusive Master Class at Witte de With, which will explore socio-botany within the Rotterdam context with special focus on the city’s built environment and its potential for urban farming. As a former member of the Guangzhou-based Big Tail Elephant Group artist collective, Xu started his ongoing work titled The Social Botany Project in 2012 in the Pearl River Delta as to investigate the relation of urban dwellers with the botanical, be it in the rooftop farms of Hong Kong, or in Guangzhou’s floating farmland. His video Social Plants and Thought Spasm remains on view in our current exhibition Dai Hanzhi: 5000 Artists.

The Master Class is open to students, artists and practitioners from the arts and sciences.
This event is free for Club Witte de With members, please contact reservations [at] wdw.nl.
