Since the opening of our Education & Participation Space, Kunstinstituut Melly has become a vibrant place for workshops, lectures, and collective learning experiences. We organize workshops open to everyone, where creativity, connection, and personal expression are at the heart of the experience.

Workshop: Interactive / Participatory Installation

What happens when a drawing becomes a conversation? In Interactive / Participatory Installation, Ainhoa Eslava, Regina Korkovelou and Pavlos Theodorou invite you to explore drawing as a collaborative game, where each drawing responds to the one that came before it.

The workshop begins with a brief explanation of how this conversational method came about, what it entails, and a demonstration using overhead projectors. You will first complete the exercise in pairs, following the usual setup, to become familiar with the exercise. Afterwards, you will be divided into four groups of five people. In these groups, you will conduct the exercise in a circle, following the person on your left and expanding the conversation to a larger group.

You will also have the opportunity to continue the exercise in pairs or groups of four, using two different mediums: drawing and photography. One person draws, the next takes a picture that is somehow related to the drawing, and the next draws a resemblance of the picture, continuing this process.

Finally, everyone will take part in a collective exercise. You will alternate between 20 different papers, following the same dynamic. This time, one person will guide the drawing from the overhead projector, changing as many times as needed for the drawing to be completed. The result will be 20 different collective versions of the same drawing.
