Carmen José

Carmen José (she/they) is an illustrator, educator and organizer. She holds a Master Fine Arts at the KH Kassel (Germany) in Visual Communication with focus on Illustration and Editorial Design. In 2018 she moved to Rotterdam for an artist residency at BAD and NAC Foundation where she worked on “Lines of movement” a research supported by the O&O grant from CBK Rotterdam. Since 2015, she has worked as a freelance illustrator mostly for publications of social practice and poetry. She works as an educator for institutions like RAVB master (2026) or WdKA bachelor in illustration and social practices (2020-2025) and as an organizer for different initiatives she co-founded like the Rotterdam Illustration Festival (2025). She is part of the trans inclusive anti-colonial collective Feministas en Rotterdam.
