Bod Mellor

Bod Mellor (b. 1970, the United Kingdom) lives and works in London. They received a MA degree at the Royal College of Art, London, in 1996. In their images, they deconstruct the interactive structure of the cult of celebrity by means of black humor, fabricating a relationship between star and his/her believer, the fan. They fuel the iconic, overused images of celebrities with new symbols and icons, often inspired on the colorfulness of Pop Art and surrealism. In so doing the artist themself frequently takes the role of a stalker and deconstructs the various functions of the celebrity: as family member, lover, enemy or object of delinquent sexuality. Their work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions, among which are Take Em by the Legs and Throw Em Down the Stairs, Galerie Gabriel Rolt, Amsterdam (2013); What Happened to Helen?, Focal Point, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, (2013); An Ecstasy of Purpose, Studio Voltaire, London (2010); The Conspirators, Galerie Gabriel Rolt, Amsterdam (2010) and When I was a teenage bore, Galerie Micky Schubert, Berlin (2009), as well as in various group exhibitions, for example, most recently: Dog Days II, MOT International, London (2012); Are You Alright? New Art from Britain, The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCCA) (2013); We Love Our Audience, Galerie Gabriel Rolt, Amsterdam (2012); Hysteria, Laughter and a Sense of Seriousness, Karma International & Galerie Gregor Staiger, Zurich (2011); Lightwork I at Paradise Row, London (2011). In 2009, a solo presentation of their work was also on show at the Frieze Art Fair London, under the auspices of Team Gallery, New York.
