Dora Papaspyropoulou
I am a Greek multidisciplinary artist, based in Rotterdam, working across video, photography, collage, and performance. I have a background in set design and costume making for theatre and a passion for dance, and video games.
The first thing that comes to mind is to live in a body that is constantly extending and shrinking at the same time. Technology gives the ability to the gaze to travel across continents, into private and public spaces that the body cannot physically enter. The bodies in the screen circulate, accelerate, and are reduced to data. At the same time, the physical body takes an inward bending posture, alienated from its physical surroundings.
Dreaming vertically is to be in a never ending hypnagogy of stimuli. Dreaming vertically is to dream of climbing the hierarchy of bodies in the feed of social media.
Technology trains us to dream vertically so we cannot access what is within reach when we extend our bodies.
