Thulile Gamedze
Thulile Gamedze is a Johannesburg-based cultural worker engaged in text, textile and history. She has written extensively for art and academic platforms in areas from contemporary art and Southern African art history, to the aesthetics of radical movements, the politics and poetics of water, and pedagogical practices of the undercommons. Thuli’s work with textile is interested in the metaphysical, historic, political and social meanings in fabrics and quilts. Through the ongoing artistic and social history project After Library (the subject of her current PhD), she works through these ideas via shared reading collaborations, text-to-textile ‘translations’ and documented clothing loans.
