Job Vacancy Curator of Collective Learning 7th edition
Kunstinstituut Melly is inviting applications for the position of Curator of Collective Learning to lead the conceptual direction of the 7th edition of the Collective Learning in Practice (CLiP) program. This is a 12 month contract starting in July 2025.
About us:
Kunstinstituut Melly is a contemporary art institution that commissions and presents the work of visual artists and cultural makers through exhibitions, commissions, publications, events and educational programs. With a focus on collective learning, we engage artists and audiences in meaningful dialogue about art’s role in understanding our past, navigating the present, and imagining the future. Public participation is central to our approach, shaping both the process and outcomes of our work.
About CLiP
CLiP is a program that offers opportunities for young professionals interested in developing tools that foster dialogues between cultural institutions and communities. Participants work closely with our team to bring relevant questions and to activate new contact-zones that connect Kunstinstituut Melly with its locale.
Each CLiP edition:
Provides institutional resources, skills, and inspiration for participants to grow as individuals, decision-makers, and professionals. Enriches the institution through participants’ input, skills, and interests. Features a unique curriculum developed through collaborative processes within and beyond the institution.
Starting with CLiP#7, each edition will be led by a Curator of Collective Learning — a facilitator with proven experience in:
- (Un)learning practices
- Creating spaces for dialogue
- Fostering interdisciplinary collaborations
The candidate for this position should be well-networked locally (Rotterdam), experienced in their field and willing to work collaboratively. They will work alongside the Melly team, CLiP#7 participants, CLiP fellow/s and invited guests to create a six-month program that can include workshops, readings, dialogues, screenings, performances, walks and other relevant actions.
About the role:
The Curator of Collective Learning will:
- Report to the Director
- Create a conceptual framework for CLiP#7
- Supervise CLiP fellow/s
- Attend team meetings as required
- Engage with local communities and organizations on behalf of the institution.
Create learning opportunities by identifying and inviting guests to interact with CLiP participants through workshops, meetings, readings, discussions and other forms of gathering that are open to the larger public. Lead the creation of public programs inspired by their interests as well as artists exhibiting at Melly. Collaborate across teams to align the CLiP program with Melly’s educational and public programming initiatives.
They will be encouraged to take into account Kunstinstituut Melly’s Policy Plan 2025-2028 which foregrounds improvisation by activating the question “what does it mean to work and act in favour of freedom?” Improvisation inspired Melly to act from what we know (lessons from the past), towards the unknown (by continuing to engage creatively together), and toward new insights (by sharing knowledge, collectively (un)learning and relearning).
Requirements
Skills:
Strong organizational, writing, and communication abilities; a specific skill to bring to the project; and a collaborative mindset.
Technical & Language Proficiency:
Proficient in budget management and digital tools (e.g., Google Drive) with strong English proficiency (Dutch is a plus).

Must reside in or near Rotterdam to ensure active, on-site participation.
What we offer:
