Kunstinstituut Melly is Looking for a Curatorial Assistant
We are looking for a Curatorial Assistant for 32-38 hours per week, with good energy and experience to join our team and play an important role in delivering exhibitions and programs that reflect our mission in meaningful ways. Starting date 1 May 2025, or as soon as possible after.
About the role:
Reporting to the Curator of Exhibitions & Art Commissions, the main responsibilities for the Curatorial Assistant will be:
Curatorial Projects:
Assist with research, planning, execution of exhibitions and related programs. Coordinate logistics (loans, contracts, transport, insurance) and collaborate with artists and technical teams to support installations, commission fabrication, and artwork maintenance. Help develop exhibition materials and grant applications.
Project Coordination & Administration:
Manage budgets, invoices, and project records while ensuring clear communication between internal teams and external partners. Support the creation of grant proposals and funding reports.
Support Educational and Learning Programs:
Support the curatorial team with the development of educational and learning programs of Kunstinstituut Melly. Brief visitor-facing teams to ensure they can effectively share insights with audiences.
Hospitality:
Carry out bookings for visiting artist and public program participants’ travel and stay in Rotterdam. Coordinate itineraries, per diems, and welcome packs for their stay.
Requirements:
Qualifications & Experience:
A degree in art history, curatorial studies, or a related field with at least two years’ experience in a curatorial or programming role.
Skills:
Strong organizational, writing, and communication abilities; deep knowledge of contemporary art; and a collaborative mindset.
Technical & Language Proficiency:
Proficient in budget management and digital tools (e.g., Google Drive) with strong English proficiency (Dutch is a plus).
Local Engagement:
Must reside in or near Rotterdam to ensure active, on-site participation.
