At home with Jef Geys

This vitrine display centers on the exhibition What Are We Having for Dinner Tonight? by Belgian artist Jef Geys (1934-2018). For this 1993 exhibition at Witte de With, the artist involved nine families from Alexanderpolder, a neighborhood in Rotterdam. On display are photographs and various other materials that document the exhibition and related projects. The conceptual thread knitting these ephemera together is the artist’s longstanding interest in the various expressions of “home,” from Geys' exploration of post-war housing projects in Rotterdam to his open-ended project in the Parque Guarani favela in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
