FOCUS: Tromarama and Anna Witt

Live Book Tickets

Join us for a pair of Sunday afternoon gallery walkthroughs, together with artists Tromarama and Anna Witt as part of the exhibition 84 STEPS, and our 2023 new season openings.

Bandung-based artist collective Tromarama was founded in 2006 by Febie Babyrose, Herbert Hans, and Ruddy Hatumena. Together they engage the notion of the hyperreal in the digital age, and the interrelation of physical and virtual spaces. In 84 STEPS Tromorama will present their site-specific work Soliloquy (2018/2022). In this installation, some ninety second-hand lamps scattered throughout the space are activated by online use of the hashtag “#kinship”, triggering a flickering pattern of light.

German artist Anna Witt is interested in non-verbal forms of communication, such as sound, gesture, and movement as a means to access unspoken layers of communal existence. In 84 STEPS Witt will present a newly commissioned site-specific installation Soft Destructions (2022). In this work, Witt creates a set for live ASMR performances. The term ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) refers to a physical reaction comprised of a pleasant tingling sensation which many people find soothing. The live sound-performances will focus on the auditory and sensory effects of gentle, destructive actions towards the objects spread within the gallery, that make up the installation. The physical debris will remain and accumulate within the space, thereby constantly changing it over the course of the exhibition.

In an hour, the artists and curators will share insights into the works and exhibition, with response to public Q&A.
