FORUM ‘Horizons and the Colonial Abyss’ with Ana Vaz and Boaventura de Sousa Santos

Join us for a FORUM with artist Ana Vaz and renowned theorist and activist Boaventura de Sousa Santos, moderated by scholar Rolando Vazquez. Be inspired by an exploration of what ‘post-abyssal’ thinking can be in global paradigms and in the making of art and film. In a renowned article, Boaventura de Sousa Santos described the Treaty of Tordesillas (1494) between Portugal and Spain as creating an ‘abyssal line’ that continues to haunt the globe with European colonial history and its mental habits. In her film-making, Ana Vaz follows the same questions through a process of sense-making, tracing the fold by which colonial legacies are written in the body and in the poetry of the everyday.
