Exhibition opening of "My Oma"

Live Free Entrance

Kunstinstituut Melly welcomes you to celebrate the opening of our upcoming exhibition My Oma, a curatorial project focusing on the figure of the grandmother. This opening reception will take place as part of our festive opening weekend from 8—10 December featuring a rich program of performances, talks, music, culinary experiences and celebratory events.

Amongst other programs, this weekend will feature Melly X Amarte: Music for My Oma. In this collaboration with the Amarte Fund, we will present musicians and sound artists who respond to the theme of the exhibition and its artworks throughout the opening night on 8 December and the opening weekend. To stay updated on our programs follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter or visit the Engage page of our website.

My Oma is the closing exhibition and public engagement project of Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy’s tenure as the director of Kunstinstituut Melly. It marks her six years of transformational institutional work here, which began in January 2018 and concludes in December 2023. The exhibition and its parallel projects result from curatorial research and public outreach conducted by her and her team—including curators Rosa de Graaf, Jessy Koeiman, Julija Mockutė, and Vivian Ziherl—during this span of time.

On behalf of the staff and artists, we look forward to seeing you at Kunstinstituut Melly.
