KEYNOTE: Erik van Lieshout ‘René Daniëls — Between presence and painting’
6–7:30 pm
Join us for a KEYNOTE by artist Erik van Lieshout, titled “René Daniëls — Between presence and painting”.
The lecture will speak to van Lieshout’s recent film Rene Daniëls, exhibited at Maureen Paley Gallery London and de Pont Museum of Contemporary Art in Tilburg.
Educated as a social worker before going to art school at de Ateliers in Amsterdam, Van Lieshout wanted to create an engaging portrait of renowned painter René Daniëls’ present life and work. As is well known, in 1987 Daniel’s career was abruptly interrupted by a stroke from which he has never entirely recovered. During the lecture, van Lieshout will reflect on the relationship between art and therapy, his own training, and his relationship to Daniëls' ongoing painting practice.
This program is co-presented with de Pont Museum. The film René Daniëls was made possible with the financial support of the Mondriaan Fund, Foundation Art Dock, and the Netherlands Film Fund.
